UFAS can be justly proud of the Cap Times editorial “UW-Madison’s unions were key to Flock camera removal” by AFSCME 171 member Scott Gordon. Our membership did indeed step up to the challenge, alongside our sibling unions TAA and AFSCME 171 and allies from many Dane County communities. It’s a heartening example of what we can do when we stand together!
Of course, the work is not done. As Scott says, “Flock’s competitors may not have generated the same amounts of scandal and public outrage, but they do have the same fundamental incentives to create an unaccountable dragnet that invites abuse. Like Flock, they are selling software and access to massive data sets, every bit as key to their business model as the cameras themselves.”
